Introduction to Routing

The 423-hectare Aberdeen Country Park covers Mount Cameron, Tin Wan and Aberdeen Reservoirs. Start from the east bank of the Aberdeen Reservoir and ascend along Yue Kwong Road to reach Aberdeen Country Park, the southern boundary of Hong Kong Island. On both sides of the road, you can see the igneous clastic rock formed by volcanic activity about 2 million years ago; you may also see the black-eared owls commonly known as the eagles, flying by. Along the way, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Aberdeen comprising typhoon shelters and buildings. Then continue onwards until reaching the end point at the Dam of the Aberdeen Upper Reservoir.

There are two reservoirs in the Aberdeen Country Park, namely the Aberdeen Upper Reservoir and the Aberdeen Lower Reservoir. The Aberdeen Lower Reservoir was formerly built as a private reservoir at Tai Shing Paper Factory in 1890. It was subsequently requisitioned and re-constructed by the Government in 1930 as a public reservoir. In 1931, the Aberdeen Upper Reservoir was built in the upper reaches of the lower reservoir.
